The I.T. job market in South Florida has experienced a roller coaster ride over the past five years. From the heights of 1999/2000 to the depths of 2001/2002, I.T. job seekers experienced feast and famine.
When the number of unemployed I.T. professionals started to swell in 2001, the South Florida Association of Internet Professionals and Computer Careers International started an I.T. Networking and Social event scheduled on the last Tuesday of each month. The purpose is to strengthen the I.T. job market in South Florida. It is free to attend, for both job seekers and hiring companies. Month attendance averages around 100 to 125, including around a dozen hiring authorities.
The monthly I.T. Networking and Social Event is conducted in a comfortable, stress free and informal environment at Murphy’s Law Irish Pub located at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. It is an environment where I.T. hiring authorities and I.T. professionals can actually talk with one another. It is an environment where I.T. professional can exchange job leads with each other as well. It is an environment free of rushed, long-lines at a job expo. It is an environment where I.T. professionals can actually meet and consult with seasoned I.T. recruiters. It is an environment where, often-time, people make an immediate connection for a job interview. This is networking at its finest.
“We believe in giving back to the IT community”, Richard Silverstein …senior staffing professional at Computer Careers International states. “Our dedication to staffing goes beyond the standard services provided by other staffing organizations. We provide our time, energy and services at our monthly networking / social events as well as to the very many user groups actively sponsored by Computer Careers International. We meet I.T. professionals where they congregate. Not just at our offices or by phone. I.T. professionals and the companies hiring these professionals have come to recognize the added value that Computer Careers provides.”
Now we find ourselves in 2005, and thankfully the I.T. job market is on the upswing. The demand for I.T. professionals is starting to exceed the supply, and hiring companies are once again searching for I.T. talent. Thanks to the monthly I.T. Networking & Social, both job seekers and hiring companies know where to go to find each other in person!
